Your homework is to work on the book presentation questions for your Independent Reading Book. You will be given an opportunity to work on these questions in class on Friday for 30 minutes, but it would be wise to do as many of them as you can at home. If for some reason you are absent on Friday because of sickness or school activity, it is your responsibility to make sure I receive this assignment by Friday at 3:00pm or via email by Saturday morning. I will not be accepting late work and the project is worth 100 points. I have attached a handout of the book presentation questions below. Due Friday, June 3.

Your homework is to finish reading your Independent Reading book. On Friday, June 3, in class, you will be given a worksheet to fill out about your book, so please finish reading the book by Friday. If you are going to be absent on Friday, it is your responsibility to speak to me about the assignment on Wednesday and turn it in by that weekend (by email or in my mailbox).
Read your Independent Reading book and write a 1-2 page freewrite in your composition notebook. Please keep in mind that you should be finished reading your book by next week in order to do the final project/presentation. Freewrite due Friday, May 27, 2016.
Complete the entire vocabulary packet that we began in class. Also, study for a quiz on these vocabulary words. Due Wednesday, May 25.
Read an additional 25 pages in your independent reading book and in your composition notebook, write a 1-2 page freewrite. Remember, I am not look for a summary of what you read; instead, you should concentrate on other strategies, such as analyzing character, discussing theme, connecting to the text, etc. Also, you will not receive credit for anything less than one page.
Due Monday, May 16. Complete the final draft of your nature memoir. You will be graded on the content (ideas, details, description, etc.), the structure (paragraphs, vocabulary, flow, etc.), and grammar (spelling, punctuation, capitalization). Remember, we are attempting to create something beautiful like "Mississippi Solo" and "Polar Dreams," so turning in the same page-and-a-half that you had all week is not good enough: I want to see you improve, add details, and polish up the grammar.
Worth 100 points and due on Tuesday, May 10. In class on Monday, you wrote the 1st draft of your nature memoir. Today, in class, you began to write the 2nd draft of your nature memoir. Your homework is to complete the 2nd draft of your nature memoir. Remember, the 2nd draft should be stronger than the first draft in the following three ways: 1) It should be split up into paragraphs. 2) It should have some added details (more description, imagery, figurative language, etc.). 3) It should not have some parts of the 1st draft that no longer make sense. If you create paragraphs, add details, and delete the unnecessary or confusing parts, then it is a good 2nd draft. On Friday, we will work on editing the grammar. The 2nd draft is due on Friday, May 6.
P.S. If you are going to Catalina on Friday, the 2nd draft as well as the final draft are both due on Tuesday, May 10. If you need me to read your 2nd draft and give you feedback before you work on the final draft, please drop it off to me before Tuesday. In class, we brainstormed many possible ideas for your nature memoir and of course we have read several examples from our book. Now it is time for you to choose your own idea for a autobiographical memoir: one idea or one experience that you have had that involves nature. It can be a favorite place that shows the beauty of nature, like Yosemite or your favorite park or the ocean, or it could be your most memorable vacation that helped you discover the beauty of nature, or it could be a hobby that revolves around nature, like fishing.
Your homework is to write a 1-2 page proposal, on a loose-leaf piece of paper, explaining your project, explaining the memoir that you would like to write. Why did you choose it? Why is it so memorable? Why do you want to write about it? What specific lesson did you learn about nature and about yourself? Due Tuesday, May 2. On Friday, you chose and signed in the independent reading book that you will be reading for the next month or so. Your homework assignment is to read the first 25 pages of your book. Due Tuesday, April 26.
Also, please rest and be ready for the SBAC test beginning this Monday. I believe in you! Your best + My best = Our Success Choose an independent reading book that you would like to read during the next five weeks. The book can be any genre, but must be at least 150 pages and must be a book that you have never read. Although you can get your book anywhere, I encourage you to choose a book from our classroom library. My classroom is open during nutrition and lunch if you want to stop by and choose a book. On Friday, you will have to bring your book to class and sign it in (commit to it). Due Friday, April 22.
